San Jose’s Solar America City program has collaborated with the San Jose Municipal Employee Credit Union to initiate an Employee Solar Group Buy.

A volunteer driven Evaluation Committee of current employees, retirees and Department of Energy staff reviewed eleven industry proposals on behalf of the Group throughout June and July. The Committee has selected the following vendors to provide solar installation services to Group members:

• SunPower Corporation – Solar photovoltaic (electric) and solar thermal (hot water)
• SunWater Solar – Solar thermal (hot water)

Utilizing the power of volume purchasing, the pricing achieved through this effort is the lowest to date in California! Currently the Group has 130 participants. The more participation the Group achieves, the lower the installation cost becomes. Additionally, the Credit Union’s special low cost financing partnered with State incentives and federal tax credits make solar more affordable than ever.

To receive a free solar evaluation for your home by SunPower and/or SunWater Solar, please send the following information to jessie.denver@sanjoseca.gov as soon as possible:

• Name
• Email address
• Type of installation
• Solar photovoltaic only
• Solar thermal only
• Both
• Age and condition of roof
